More On Denver [Ticket] Scalping Incident

posted by Kay in The Press Archives

Allstar’s Backstreet Boys ticket scalping story on Tuesday (allstar, Nov. 23) sparked several letters from fans who want the Boys to know that $110 was hardly where the ticket scalping tapered off in Denver. According to one reader, the prices were well into the thousands.

“The Boys were appalled by tickets being scalped for $110?!!?” said the reader. “I paid $300 for mine, so did my friend and her parents. Also there were people scalping tickets for $1500 about 15 minutes before the show.” Another fan reported tickets going for $1000 in Kansas City, Kan. as well.

Maybe the Boys should consider raising the ante for the House of Blues, promoters of the Denver show, from $75,000 to $750,000.

Backstreet Boys “Horrified” At Ticket Scalping In Denver

posted by Kay in The Press Archives

After a little detective work by private investigators, the Backstreet Boys have issued a challenge to the House of Blues, promoter for the Boys’ Oct. 31 concert at the Pepsi Center in Denver, after learning some 1200 venue-controlled tickets ended up in the hands of scalpers.

Fans were charged up to at least $110 for the $38.50 face value tickets and the Boys have requested the House of Blues make a donation of $75,000 to the Columbine College Fund to make up for the negligence on their part to thwart ticket scalping. In a rather melodramatic statement released on Tuesday (Nov. 23) by the band’s publicity firm, the Mitch Schneider Organization, the Boys relayed their stance on scalping. “We’ve done everything we can to prevent scalping, from limiting the number of tickets purchased to distributing wristbands,” said the statement. “To think scalping of this type occurred at the Denver show infuriated us. With us, the fans always come first and anything that compromises our connection with them will always be addressed and properly investigated. We were horrified to learn that our fans in Denver were manipulated and ripped off this way.”

Backstreet Boys Get “Larger Than Life” For VMA Performance

posted by Kay in The Press Archives

Kitted out in black coats straight out of “The Matrix” and accompanied only by a few spare spotlights, Nick, Kevin, Howie, A.J., and Brian — otherwise known as the Backstreet Boys — hit the VMA stage to sing their colossal summer hit, “I Want It That Way.”

But ballads can sometimes bring down a festive atmosphere, and the BSBs are not the types of guys to dampen the mood at a party. So after the first few bars, the Boys ripped off those long coats and jumped into the aptly-titled “Larger Than Life,” the group’s next single (and an ode to their millions of fans).

The guys welcomed a huge troupe of female and male dancers onstage for the number, showing off the stage chops they’ve developed during their recent tour of Europe as well as outfits which appeared to be made of patent leather, chain mail, and black nylon.

BSB fans in the audience cheered their heads off, and hopefully they remembered to set their VCRs at home so that they could memorize the guys’ moves in time for their upcoming North American tour. Chris Rock, however, continued his BSB-chiding theme from his opening monologue, noting the guys’ performance earned them the moniker “C.W.A.” for “Crackers With Attitude.”
